In May 2015 Sir Ian Wood announced that The Wood Foundation were making £10million available to NHS Grampian towards improving car parking facilities at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The idea was that of The Wood Foundation Trustee and wife of Sir Ian Wood, Lady Helen Wood who had concerns about the distress felt when trying to park at the Foresterhill Health Campus by people attending appointments or visiting friends and family, in what is already often a stressful situation.
The funds are planned to be used to build a multi-storey car park with a minimum of 1,000 spaces exclusively for patient and visitors at the Foresterhill Health Campus. The contribution will allow for the construction to go ahead without diverting public funds from vital front-line healthcare services.
The project is now in the process of approval, public procurement procedures and planning and it is hoped work can get underway at the beginning of 2016.
