Established in 2012 by former Aberdeen Football Club captain, Russell Anderson, in partnership with the Paul Lawrie Foundation, The Russell Anderson Development School provides increased opportunities to access exercise and team activities within some of the more deprived areas of Aberdeen through football coaching and training sessions.
The Wood Foundation supported the programme in the early stages of its development with an initial investment of £9,250 and has since invested and committed a further £102,400 between 2014 and 2019.
Currently seven schools across Aberdeen City are involved in the programme with more than 1,600 primary age boys and girls benefitting from structured sports and fitness sessions which also include fun exercises. The sessions help the children to understand the importance of fitness and nutrition whilst allowing them to develop communication, social and life skills.
